We don’t all love to clean, but we love a clean home. Fortunately, all it takes are a few key tips.
If you want your deeper cleans to be less intensive, a consistent cleaning schedule will save you the time and trouble. As long as you keep up with these 5 tips and tricks, you’ll be able to make the most of your time and achieve a more regularly clean home.
1. Don’t clean one room at a time – complete one task at a time
When you clean your whole house at once, rather than every individual room, cleaning becomes a lot faster and more efficient. If you want to use up your cleaning time more effectively, create a list of tasks to complete based on the needs of every room. That way, you can check off individual activities – like vacuuming, mopping, or disinfecting surfaces – rather than checking off one room after another, which is almost always more time-consuming.
2. Clear the clutter before it builds up
Even when you’re not getting ready for a deep clean, or even a light clean, stay aware of the clutter in your home, and clean it up as you go. Keep what you need and consider donating items you don’t need. This helps you stay organized, saves more space, and makes the rest of your chores a lot easier to finish.
3. Disinfect surface areas regularly
Set aside time to wipe down your countertops, appliances, light switches, cabinets, doorknobs, and even your TV remote. These hard surface areas and appliances are some of the easiest ways to transfer germs from one person to another, so cleaning them consistently offers the healthiest possible outcome for your household.
4. Dust, vacuum, sweep, and mop consistently
The more frequently you dust and vacuum, the less long it will take to get it done. Make sure to dust your TV screens, furniture, computers, shelves, and blinds regularly. When vacuuming carpets, change your bed sheets first as this will fully remove lingering debris in the bedroom. For hard-wood floors or tiles, make sure you sweep up debris before you mop and disinfect.
5. Don’t forget about tubs, toilets, and sinks
Bathtubs and toilets should be sprayed with cleaner, along with your kitchen sink. Many people forget to clean their kitchen sink as often, resulting in a sponge that’s dirtier than the household toilet! When you’re cleaning tubs and sinks, make sure to reserve the toilet for last. The best results are achieved by letting the cleaner dissolve dirt and stains for a few minutes.
6. Have everyone in the household do their part
Cleaning is a team effort, so everyone in the home should do their part. Create a schedule and assign tasks for your family members or housemates. Cleaning with someone else can make it a little less boring, and it definitely saves up on so much time – for everyone.
